Under Manx law you are unable to undertake certain construction projects without first applying for building control approval, as set out by the Building Control Act 1991 and supported by the Building Regulations 2003.

 

The purpose of these regulations is to secure reasonable standards of

 

· Health and safety for persons in or about buildings

· Energy conservation

· Access and facilities for disabled persons

 

Some examples of work that would fall under the regulations are:

 

· The extension of a dwelling

· New Build

· Works to sanitary pipework drainage and heat appliances

· The insertion of insulation material into a cavity wall

· Work involved in underpinning a building
